Forensic expert consultancy

Expert accounting opinion in disputes and litigation, with a detailed, evidenced report.

In disputes with a financial dimension, the difference between a strong position and a weak one is usually the quality of the accounting report put forward: is it based on documents, is its method clear, and will it survive examination by the other side? We provide an independent, reasoned expert accounting opinion, written to be read by a neutral party.

Who this service is for

For parties to a dispute who need an independent assessment of financial impact, for law firms needing an accounting expert to support their client position, and for companies required to respond to an expert report submitted against them.

What the service covers

  • Studying the dispute file and its documents and identifying the accounting matters in issue.
  • Calculating the financial impact and stating the basis and the source of every figure.
  • Preparing a reasoned expert report with a clear method.
  • Reviewing the opposing expert report and setting out our observations on it.
  • Attending meetings and providing clarifications on request.

How we work

  1. Reviewing the file and defining precisely what is required of the expert.
  2. Listing the documents available and identifying what is missing and its effect on the opinion.
  3. The calculation and analysis, building the opinion on a documented basis.
  4. Delivering the report stating the method, the assumptions, and the limits of the opinion.
  5. Responding to observations and providing clarifications where needed.

Regulatory framework

The opinion is given in the capacity of an independent accounting expert, and is bound to impartiality and to stating the assumptions and the limits of what it relies on. Appointing an expert before the judicial authorities and weighing that expert opinion fall within their exclusive competence, and this report does not stand in place of legal representation.

A report that does not show its method is easy to answer, however correct its figures are.

Frequently asked questions

Will you work for one party to a dispute?

Yes, but the opinion remains professional and reasoned. We do not change the conclusion to suit whoever asked for it, and that is precisely what makes the report useful.

What if the documents are incomplete?

We say so plainly, along with the effect on the opinion, and we distinguish what can be stated with certainty from what remains an estimate. Concealing the gap weakens the report at the first examination.

Do you attend hearings?

We provide clarifications and attend meetings within what has been agreed and as the procedures of the body hearing the dispute allow.
